Structure of Acetyl Chloride

Acyl halides are carbonyl compounds in which at least one of the atoms or groups attached to the carbonyl C-atom is a halogen. The other group usually is a hydrocarbon group. The general formula of acyl halides is R-CO-X where X stands for a halogen atom and R-CO- is the acyl group. The "acetyl" group is the acyl group in which R is a methyl group.
