Structure of Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is the simplest carbonyl of all. A carbonyl compound contains the >C=O group. The C=O bond is quite polar. Depending as to what kinds of atoms or groups are attached to the C-atom of the carbonyl groups, one can obtain a great variety of different classes of carbonyl compounds. In formaldehyde there are two hydrogen atoms attached to the carbonyl C-atom.
