Tetrahydrated Lithium Cation

Lithium cation is charged and very small and, hence, it is a superb Lewis acid. The interaction between lithium cation and the Lewis base water is very strong: over 40 kcal/mol! There is space for four water molecules to approach the lithium cation and they coordinate in a tetrahedral fashion.
