Lithium Acetylide

Terminal alkynes contain an "acidic" hydrogen. Well, alkynes are by no means acids, but with very strong bases one can take the "acidic" H-atom of. The remaining anion is an acetylide anion. The ion pair formed by that anion and lithium cation is shown. Such acetylides are good sources of anionic carbon.
