(1) Topic Selection: 18 Points (0-20)
Yes, the selected topic was very interesting to everyone, because the depletion
of the ozone layer is going to harm all. There is a lot of chemistry
related to the actual depletion of the ozone, but I don't think there is
a whole lot of organic chemistry in it.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
Yes we think this was a very credible article, that was also very interesting.
(3) Quality of the Editorial
The editorial was much more interetsing to read than the actual news article.
It was written very well, and it definitely focused on the main issues,
such as the effects humans will get with even a small amount of ozone depletion
(like increase in cancer and cateracts).
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
8 Points (0-10)
The key organic chemical issue wasn't explicitly clear. However the
chemistry was easy to understand. The reference section was complete.
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
This group definitely did an excellent job with their links. They
were all very interesting, and they all related to the topic. We
especially thought the one on cancer and cateracts was interesting.
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 7 Points (0-10)
Mosst of the question were very good, but there was not a whole lot of
variety. Most just asked for chemical equations.
(7) Quality of the Questions:
10 Points (0-10)
All of the questions were reasonable and related to the central issue.
they were all pretty easy to understand, too.
(8) Overall Impression. 10
Points (0-10)
This assignment was very interesting, well thought out, and fit for publication.
I think this is a really important issue, so this was a great topic to
select.

Evaluation by Group 35
(1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
The topic was of interest to many people and it related well to the topic
of chemistry.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
Very good news article from a good source, very recently published, good
length.
(3) Quality of the Editorial
Very good comments, helped bring up the key issues in the article.
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
9 Points (0-10)
Could use a little more background information on how the CFCs actually
cause the depletion of the ozone layer in the comments.
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 18 Points (0-20)
Too many links, some of the topics of the links did not directly relate
to information that would enhance the article.
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
Very good questions, very well thought out. The questions didnt vary in
categories much though, alot of them were alike.
(7) Quality of the Questions:
10 Points (0-10)
Very good questions, fabulous job.
(8) Overall Impression. 9
Points (0-10)
Good, though it could use a little polishing. With a few changes,
I would recommend it for publication.
Evaluation by Group 36
(1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
A very good topic selection with all of the ozone problems that are in
the news.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 9 Points (0-10)
The article has a lot of good information and the author seems qualified
to write on the subject, but the article is very short and doesn't go into
much detail
(3) Quality of the Editorial
The editoral comments I found were a little too scientific. I felt
that they should have tried to relate more to a less scientific audience.
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
10 Points (0-10)
Lots of Organic Chemistry content
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
They have more links in their project than my group even found.
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
the group has 6 questions some of which I think are too much.
(7) Quality of the Questions:
9 Points (0-10)
The questions are good but hard to understand
(8) Overall Impression. 10
Points (0-10)
I can tell that this group put a lot of time and effort into their project.
They did a good job.
Evaluation by Group 37
(1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
I think this topic is a very good. It has an relevant emphasis on organic
chemistry. It is also a very timely subject.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
The article wasn't too long and it was interesting. The newspaper and author
seemed qualified. And the article was published before 1/1/98.
(3) Quality of the Editorial
The style was fine for the editorial comments. The comments were fine but
it seemed that they may have forced the chemistry into the subject.
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
9 Points (0-10)
The organics of the article were not as clear as they could have. I think
they kind of forgot who their audience was. Sources were fine
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
The links were very sufficient and well thought out. They helped me throughly
examilne the topic.
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 10 Points (0-10)
Has 5 questions. The questions helped bring the article around to the topics
of the chapter they selected. They would have had relevance to the test.
The last question is a PSP question.
(7) Quality of the Questions:
9 Points (0-10)
Some of the questions seemed to be a little tough. But they do deal with
the issues central to the article and the organic class.
(8) Overall Impression. 10
Points (0-10)
I think this would be one that a teacher would be likely to use. The questions
were good the only thing I thought was weak was that the article could
have had a bit more chemistry.
