(1) Topic Selection: 19 Points (0-20)
The subject was extremely good, however didn't Dr. Glaser send us an e-mail
regarding Seaborg? Good topic, but handed on a silver platter.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
Good source. It's a good length, informative, and interesting for
a science-appreciative audience.
(3) Quality of the Editorial
Numerous grammatical errors. It reads like a rough draft. The thoughts
do not flow very well.
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
7 Points (0-10)
Most of the editorial comments were just giving minute discriptions of
the periodic table. The most important discovery, plutonium, was
not even given enough recognition in conjuction with the nuclear bomb.
Chapter one seems too general for a reference.
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 8 Points (0-20)
There are only three links for well over "twelve" underlined links.
One of the links is not a good source, and another does not work either.
The other ten underlines are for the same exact link.
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 8 Points (0-10)
Good questions, although there were only four.
(7) Quality of the Questions:
9 Points (0-10)
We think that you should have links to your answers and not just state
them. The first question seems like irrevalent detail.
(8) Overall Impression. 4
Points (0-10)
If they made some substantial readjustments, (i.e. new links, grammer check,
revision on editorial, more research on elements, etc.) Then, it
would be fit for general classroom use.

1. Topic Selection 18 Points
We believe that
this particular article was a good selection
dealing with chemistry because Glen Seaborg was one of the most
instrumental minds ever in chemistry. It is also a good topic
because it
relates well to the audience. It does not seem to relate that
much to
organic chemistry but more toward general chemistry.
2. Newspaper and Article
Selection 10 Points
It wasn't exactly
published in a specific newspaper but by the
Associate Press is a reputable organization and its articles are used
by
many newspapers.
3. Quality of Editorial
comments-- 7 points
The editorial
comments seemed to me like they were too basic,
they didn't seem to challenge me into thinking about them but they
did
relate well to the article well.
4. Organic Chemistry Content-- 9 points
We thought that
it was hard to see the relationship to
particularly organic chemistry but he certainly made many contributions
to
chemistry as a whole. The article didn't really seem to go into
much
about organic chemistry but it did discuss well the elements that Seaborg
and his colleagues discovered.
5. Selection and Quality
of the Links-- 20 points
We found the
links to be interesting and a good representation
ofthe article. They helped me to learn more about Seaborg and
what his
accomplishments were.
6. Format, Number,
and Types of Questions-- 9 points
We thought that the questions were good except for the fact
that there is only 4.
7. Quality of the Questions--
9 points
We thought that
the questions were too basic and didn't seem to
lend themselves to much more thought.
8. Overall Impression--
8 points
The entire group
believed that this was a good presetation but
could have used a little help on the questions. Seaborg was important
even though the article didn't really symbolize his major contributions
to
organic chemistry.
Evaluation by Group 23
1) 20 Points
The topic was good, many
people would be interested in how and
who created the atomic bomb, there was a strong relationship of the
topic
to chemistry.
2) 8 Points
The news paper was published
on ABC News Associated Press, which
was a high quality newspaper. The author did seem qulified to
wirte a
paper, but not on the science. There should of been more on the science
of
the atomic bomb then the history of it. The article was published
within
the past one year. The article wasn't wrong, the article was
kind of
boring, could of got a more interesting article.
3) 10 Points
Yes the article answers
all the questions............
4) 8 Points
Yes the key orgaic chemical
issue was made clear. They had a good
Idea in showing the elements by linking it to the periodical table,
but on
clicking the links, it was diffucult to get to them. Maybe they
should
have used a chemfinder, or direct page site of the element information
site. Yes the pertinent reference section complete.
5) 17 Points
Yes, the link were relavent
and quite stable for the issue being
discussed at hand. Yes, we learned where the elements stand in
the
periodical table. Yes, the links are embedded well into the editorial
comments. Yes, to an extent.......There could have been links
on how an
atomic bomb is formed to make it interesting.
6) 8 Points
The problem does not contain
the 5 questions requested. The
questions do vary as far as catagories go, and there is a PSP question.
7) 10 Points
All the questions were answered
fine. They address central issues
and were comprehendable.
8) 10 Points
This is a useful assignment,
provided that minor adjustment be
made.
