Evaluation by Group 1
(1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
The topis chosen appeals to most everyone since aging is a universal process.
One of the most interesting aspects of the subject is the way it deals
with organic chemistry because before I never knew the relation.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 9 Points (0-10)
The article was published before 1-1-98, making it a little outdated.
However, it was a ninformative and well-written article by what seems to
be a credible source. It did get a little long, though.
(3) Quality of the Editorial
The editorial comment summed up the article well and was well written.
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
9 Points (0-10)
Organic chemistry concepts were clear and easy to understand- there was
a lot of chemistry, but it was sufficient.
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 17 Points (0-20)
The links were helpful and most were relevant to the topic at hand, however,
I did feel that some strayed from the subject matter a little. There
weren't very many links, either. I feel that the more info presented
dealing with the subject, the better.
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 7 Points (0-10)
Only three questions, but they are all good questions that do relate to
the subject matter.
(7) Quality of the Questions:
10 Points (0-10)
Good quality- challenging yet they relate to the material.
(8) Overall Impression. 9
Points (0-10)
I though it was a good article and it is definitely suitable for publication.
Very few things would have to be changed.
Evaluation by Group 2
(1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
Everybody ages so we think this article pertains to everbody. Also,
this article is overflowing with chemistry. Very relative to the
class.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
All the information was very professional and up to date. The article was
of proper length and quite intruiging.
(3) Quality of the Editorial
It was clear that the group spent some time with the editorial comments.
All the grammer was fine, length was good, and it correlated with tha article
well.
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
10 Points (0-10)
The chemical issue was made very clear. There were a sufficient number
of links to the subjects that might not have been that clear such as using
the chemfinder for vitamin c.
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
The links were great. There were plenty of them and they were placed
evenly throughout the editorial comments. Also, they were relevant
to the subject and interesting which was a bonus.
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 9 Points (0-10)
The problem contains three questions, not five. But three questions
they do have are very good and relevant. The last question was a
thinker.
(7) Quality of the Questions:
10 Points (0-10)
The questions are suitable for the topic. They relate to the article
well and the answers are actually interesting. As far as time goes,
that's good too.
(8) Overall Impression. 10
Points (0-10)
This is a very good article. We would highly recommend it for publication.
The group definetly put some time into this project. It's also an
interesting topic unlike alot of raw organic chemistry.
We are proud of this group. Good job.
Evaluation by Group 3
(1) Topic Selection: 19 Points
(0-20)
It is a practical use of organic chemistry in our lives.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
This article is very pertinent to our lives, and our Chemistry class. It
is also from a reputable paper and the author seems to be very knowledgeable
on the subject.
(3) Quality of the Editorial
They were good, but they should have expanded a little more. Should have
developed origional ideas.
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
7 Points (0-10)
they should have been more specific on the references. Examples include:
4-16b,4-10,4-14. Not enough important compounds described.
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 20 Points (0-20)
this group has found many high quality links..........as well as some good
fun links a the bottom of their page.
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 8 Points (0-10)
Lack of questions.........-2
(7) Quality of the Questions:
9 Points (0-10)
fairly simple questions............not very thought provoking
(8) Overall Impression. 10
Points (0-10)
This is a good quality page and is worthy of being published. It
is well written and is on an interesting topic.
It needs 2 more questions.
Evaluation by Group 4
1. Topic Selection 20/20 pts
Aging is relevant to everyone
and the article relates chemistry
well with free radical oxidation.
2. Newspaper and Article Selection 9/10
The article is very interesting
and credible, but was published
before January 1, 1998.
3. Quality of the Editorial Comments 9/10
The comments had good content
but had a few stylistic problems.
4. Organic Chemistry Content 9/10
The comments lacked the
specific mechanism of free radical
oxidation and seem vague about key issues.
5. Selection and Quality of Links 18/20
The "general health" link
went to the American Heart Association
homepage instead of a specific page. The genetic code page seems
irrelevant and took a long time to download.
6. Format, Number, and Types of Questions 8/10
There were only 3 questions.
7. Quality of the Questions 8/10
Anti-oxidants were not discussed
in the article or the editorial
comments.
8. Overall Impression 9/10
Minor changes could increase
the usefullness of an otherwise good
topic and article.
Evaluation by Group 5
(1) Topic Selection: 20 Points (0-20)
topic is very relevant. seiously, who isn't concerned with their wieght
and the easiest way to change it.
(2) Newspaper and Article
Selection: 10 Points (0-10)
the article came from an enviormental newpaper that we have not heard of,
but we're pretty sure that it is reliable, because of the topic.
(3) Quality of the Editorial
the editorial comments were a perfect length in that they briefly explained
the topic preparing the audience for the article's information
(4) Organic Chemistry Content:
10 Points (0-10)
we never knew that free radicals did so much, especially in a biological
way. free radicals were explained well, helping to understand their
effects on the body
(5) Selection and Quality
of the Links: 17 Points (0-20)
there could have been a couple of more relative links. we felt the
one about genetic code was a little unnecessary. more pertinent links
could have been found and used
(6) Format, Number and Types
of Questions: 6 Points (0-10)
the questions and answers were written and answered throughly, but there
were only 3 questions and there were suppose to be 5. with how long
the article was, we felt they could've found more question to ask.
(7) Quality of the Questions:
9 Points (0-10)
very informative and varied, just not enough of them
(8) Overall Impression. 8
Points (0-10)
the topic was very interesting to us. they could've used a couple
of more links to their topic and they needed more questions. otherwise
well done.
